Creeping ever so slowly towards getting the taxes filed. Yes, still no taxes filed. To recap, my tax guy's helper disappeared down a well of Bourbon which left him in the lurch on about 90 returns, including mine and the Lynch estate. But he strung me along for months saying they were almost done and they were just about to get to them. Until he caved and told me about all the failed tax returns.
I hired another CPA to take over the returns. He basically asked me all the questions that should have been asked when I first sent the information back in February. I've been scurrying around trying to find the papers he needs. Today, for instance I had to send my new CPA, Craig, the return filed for the Cambridge house which was in an LLC. (Don't get me started on the LLC) That was the one return the old CPA managed to file but didn't have any digital copies. Grrr. But it sounds like Craig is almost done with the Estate. Still no end date on my personal taxes, which are dependent on the Estate Tax return.
In the beforetime, I sent the first CPA, Micheal, a deposit of $1000 in the hopes it would spur him on to get the taxes done quicker. In the past, Michael has charged me about $200 a return. I figured $1K would be plenty to cover all the tax returns due. Since, he only completed 1 return, I figured Michael should just send the balance to Craig. There I am thinking again. I sent an email to Michael explaining this to him.
I received an email back from Michael saying, au contraire, your tax preparation bill is in arrears. Mike had sent the bill to my sister and was still waiting on completion payment. Why the dumb fuck sent the bill to my sister is a mystery. My sister didn't even realize there was a bill. She vaguely remembers something about us owing another $2K. What the what?
At this point, saying I am livid undersells it by a huge margin. I'm looking into filing an ethics complaint.
