Lynch Castle Estate Stories. - Greg - 01-25-2025

For a year, I've been talking about the flier that was at Lynch Castle talking about curbside e-waste pickup. I was pissed I missed it.

Well, guess what is happening on Monday? E-waste curbside pickup. The pile on the curb is going to be massive. I even brought a bunch of stuff from home in anticipation of having someone else come by to pick up my personal e-waste. It makes me happy.

What doesn't make me happy? Elder sister spying on me through the cameras. She saw I brought a necklace home for the Queen and asked that it be returned until she has had a chance to look at. Granted, that is her right. But still. I'm a little bit cranky at the thought of the cameras being used against me. Although, I've gone and put a picture of my mother in front of each one.

I'm about to go clear out a shelf section in the garage that is nothing but my father's old business folders.

I did have to move a 27" Trinitron up the stairs from the ballroom. Why did they make TVs that heavy? I'm getting rid of a top loading VHS player as well.

Can’t you just turn those cams off? Man, what a bother.

Maybe take one of the costume pieces back to your sister.

I don’t have siblings so I cannot relate but that just sounds so irksome.

My father has never had a headstone over his grave. He was buried seven and a half years ago. It angers me greatly that honor was never done for him. One of my priorities has been to get the headstone on the grave. I'm going with something Irish, most likely a Celtic cross motif. I found a couple of designs I like from a monument back in Boston. For some reason, not a lot of call for Irish themed headstones at the local retailers. One of the stones was called Doran. It was unusual because the top was unfinished with a rough edge and a giant bas relief Celtic Cross. Middle sister really liked it as well out of all the choices.

Just got a note from the Antarctic from the eldest. She hates Doran. Naturally.

I'm tempted to send back a note saying the vote was 2-1, sucks to be you. But I won't. Maybe. The day is still young.

Ouch.

There's some of our parents in each of us. Seems like your sister has a lot of your mom in her right now. Hope she's enjoying Antartica.

Elder sister is most mom, but she'll deny it. Lots of anger in that one. Middle sister and I are very simpatico and it's very easy. Elder sister is the struggle.

I took ten bags of linens to Goodwill. That place is popular. I sent a bag full of check stubs through the shredder. I sorted my Dad's keepsakes which are still floating around. The most interesting thing probably was the permit from the government of Ireland allowing him to work there for the year.

I talked to DM's friend Tiffany about the Steinbeck collection. She wants to help deal with the collection and is open to buying a few pieces if given the opportunity. Despite the half dozen book cases crammed with Steinbeck stuff in the den, I managed to fill three boxes of Steinbeck books that were in bookcases in my mother's bedroom.

I also started boxing up the hundreds of pieces of costume jewelry in her room. I feel like I could open my own thrift store.

Turns out if you put your name on a website of Estate Sales Agents, you become very popular. They all must have woken up at the same time because I got about 8 calls in the last ten minutes from people looking to help sell my stuff.

Meanwhile, I'm going out to sell some records and a Mercury Dime. I also have a call into the Schlesinger Library at Harvard to see what papers of my mother's they want. They have already taken some.

Isn’t there a Steinbeck Library or Steinbeck Center that might want to take some off of your hands?

RE: Lynch Castle Estate Stories. - Greg - 01-29-2025

More of a funeral prep story than an estate story so forgive me.

I have Lynch cousins and McKenna cousins coming from the East coast for the funeral. The Lynch cousins just wanted to know when and where and that's it.

The McKenna cousins first wanted to be included in the obit so they could prove there was a funeral. At least that's what they told us. This morning I got a text from Antarctic sister saying the McKenna cousins are now complaining about the cost of hotel rooms. They would like to stay with us. We'll already have eight people in the house on those days. Antarctic suggested either paying for their hotel rooms or buying an inflatable mattress so they can sleep in the house.

Wow. That's transference for you. If they don't want to shoulder the financial burden, why should you? But I'm sure you're already thinking that.

RE: Lynch Castle Estate Stories. - Greg - 02-03-2025

I ordered a tombstone. I bought an online obituary. The Handyman is fixing the two sinks upstairs. My garbage cans will be empty soon and in need of filling. The house might be presentable by next week for the funeral.

Please post those funeral dates again here, when you have a moment.

Copy that. I can't make anything on the morning of the 13th because that's my triple telemeet morning.

I'll try to swing by and pay respects on Wednesday night but no promises.
