+1 on La Med and Frickin'. I would like to add Yaya Cuisine (now in Burlingame, formerly in SF) to that list. Some truly (pleasantly) surprising meals. They bill themselves as a "Mesopotamian" restaurant since "Iraqi" doesn't pull 'em in off the streets.
For shawarma and falafel, Truly Mediterranean on 16th Street is A-OK with me, too.
