I also thought the king of the vampires set the trap. But that was a huge plot hole for me; that wire would either have cut him down to the bone or taken his foot off. I also couldn't buy that they didn't know where he lived. How could that be if he were the only person on the island? And I didn't get the fear and loneliness from him because he's going to the video store and being the same old goofy Will Smith, although he was supposed to have been alone for four years! I will admit that the empty NY looked good. They really should have given it a different name. And the voice over at the end to tie in the name was really stupid. It was an okay horror film, but had just about nothing to do with the Matheson story. In the Matheson story you really get the terror and loneliness - he drinks himself into a stupor every night while the vampires try to get into his house. The dog element was even more heartbreaking in the story too. READ THE BOOK!
