I am Legend - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 12-16-2007 Of course I saw it. All in all, it was okay. The filmmakers must have had a great time making New York look deserted. The people of New York must have hated them. And the set dressers must have worked like lightning dressing the streets. I'm sure they couldn't have kept the debris in place for very long. The story was a one note song and I'm sure we all know it. Post apocalyptic man struggles to keep his sanity while battling loneliness and zombie vampires. Wil Smith does a great job of playing this character. The scenes where Smith is scared out of his mind are the best. There were a bunch of logic flaws. A few bits of deus ex machina. They used too many CGI zombies and not enough real ones. The Queen and I have one debate about a certain point in the movie. Who hurts Wil? That's all I'm going to say. I'll wait for your responses and I hope I didn't give too much away. Plus, DM is going to love this movie for the soundtrack alone. And who knew Sonia Braga had a daughter that was an actress. Yet, another Smith makes it into one of daddy's films. - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 12-22-2007 Me like this film. Me like this film a lot. Smith made the film; I didn't know he was that good of an actor, but his fear spoke directly to me. The film-makers take their time revealing the plot. The movie swings back and forth between melancholy and terrifying. Great details, and the deus was a little machina'd at times, but it was a well-done movie. You should see post-apocolypse New York on the big screen... So who did it? - The Queen - 12-27-2007 Potential spoiler alert so if you haven't seen this don't read this: Did Wil set himself up and forget about it in the loneliness of madness? Or did the zombie guy with the zombie dogs watch what he did, figure it out and set him up in the same way? And if so, was he one of the ones huddling in the dark or did some of them retain some semblance of brain and if not, HOW, or is that an example of the deus getting machina'd? Sorry, been bugging me since I saw it. I'm really pissed about poor Sam. - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 12-27-2007 I saw it as Uber-Zombie's trap, learned from Will. I thought that was why Will was freakin out so much, what with the mannequin being...out of context, shall we say? I liked that movie. I'd like to see it again to look at all of the detail...but it might be a little too soon. Uber Zombie! - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 12-28-2007 That's what I said. He was so smart and they had taken his woman. What the movie could have used was more mile high Afro's and posters for Batman vs. Superman. Batman and Superman in 2010, I'll wait - scapino - 12-31-2007 Me like the film too. I liked the fact that they did not explain certain aspects such as the squirt bottle to cover his scent. I liked the way Wil played the part, from his fear in the dark to his relationship with his dog (soft spot for me). I also liked his reaction to people after 3 years...I like Shrek too. What I didn't like is that apparently it will take the end of life as we know it before we get a Batman Superman pairing in the big screen. Shit. Uber Zombie - scapino - 12-31-2007 Also, I concure that the Uber-Zombie set the trap. I think this was a case of Dr. Nevil making another error in assuming that the Zombie in questions initial actions were a sign of mental degeneration while it in fact was the opposite, he still retained more cognitive faculties than the infected. Mathias?! Re: I am Legend - King Bob - 06-09-2010 I also thought the king of the vampires set the trap. But that was a huge plot hole for me; that wire would either have cut him down to the bone or taken his foot off. I also couldn't buy that they didn't know where he lived. How could that be if he were the only person on the island? And I didn't get the fear and loneliness from him because he's going to the video store and being the same old goofy Will Smith, although he was supposed to have been alone for four years! I will admit that the empty NY looked good. They really should have given it a different name. And the voice over at the end to tie in the name was really stupid. It was an okay horror film, but had just about nothing to do with the Matheson story. In the Matheson story you really get the terror and loneliness - he drinks himself into a stupor every night while the vampires try to get into his house. The dog element was even more heartbreaking in the story too. READ THE BOOK! Re: I am Legend - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 06-12-2010 Agree that different name would have been better - why confuse it with Matheson? I would like to see what the director's cut looks like; the ending (esp. the voice-over) smack of "studio". I saw Vincent Price in Last Man on Earth a while back and it was a good adaptation of Matheson's story. |
