As a guy who runs a small business, it turns out everyone has advice for you. Everyone. None of whom run small businesses.

It must be somewhat gratifying to see the outpouring of affection towards you and the magazine. In so many ways, you were the face for the magazine at a certain point.

Right? I must remember to poach that fortune joke because it's so true and appropriate here.

It's very gratifying. I'm getting messages from people telling me I changed their life. Some of them really cut to my heart. But I get that it's a fleeting thing too. All things are impermanent.

I feel ya. I so feel ya. But ya know, what Victory needs is a full-time content provider with a double provost degree and can overlook your knickers-in-the-gay-club-window fetish.

I posted the announcement late yesterday for two reasons - one because I had other stuff to deal with while I was at the office again and two, so I wouldn't have to deal with the deluge of messages. Those came even more today - texts, directs, calls. I screened them because I don't have the time or inclination, but did talk to a few. Some were comforting. Others delved into PPFy's 'noneowhom' (which I'm dubbing it) - those advice dispensers who don't know what the fuck they're talking about. I'm visualizing noneowhoms like crappy pez dispensers that spit up mouse turds instead of candy.

I sent out my first resumes. I got a bite on one - a good bite - although it's probably not a full time position. I'm starting to visualize some mild-mannered job, like at the spa, or the library or a bookstore, and accentuated by many side hustles. Lots of 'hiring freezes' so I'll probably grab whatever I can get for now and sort it more later.

Good visual on the Nun o’ huumz.

Wishing you good giggage, be it low-key service gigs or whatever.

I'm going back through the old TCEC footage looking for Tu. It's very bittersweet. I just did the 25th anniversary banquet. There's a lot of great demos in there that I don't think I ever put up because the performances were to be for the DVD.

Maybe we'll tap those someday. Who knows where the site is at..?

I just got my remote access and KFM admin restored so I was noodling around a bit. It's tough on this tiny screened surface pro that reverts to touch screen on chrome (still learning explorer - can't do as much there yet as efficiently). Plus I don't have photoshop so editing on the provided programs is tricky. It's reminding me of working with that damn AFS xerox machine - making art with fingerpaints.

is that why i'm constipated?

Today, Patrick and I RELEASED THE KRAKEN. We've been sitting on this vid for a whole year. Might as well fire it off now.

Did a goodly chunk of cleaning up for KFM this morning, mostly sorting emails. I was going to do it this weekend, but I was too busy wallowing about the loss of TCEC. For 14 years, this time of year was tremendously exciting for me: TCEC>Cali Roots. Well, Cali Roots only goes back to 2013, but what a run that was. It may happen later this year. Time will tell.

I might get motivated to do some KFM admin stuff.

Portable drives are cheap now. You might want to get one to back up that stuff in case they suddenly kill it.

Why? Why would he want that?

More cutaways to the kids waving their arms.

Yeah, I'm working on that. 230+ articles to back up. Unfortunately they all have to be pulled down off the web, but they shouldn't be large files if I delete the photos.

These trips back are painful. Packing up all my crap - so many memories, so much to process. I'm tossing a lot and I still have a ton of stuff. Most of the heavy lifting is done though. 4-5 boxes worth now stored at my mom's. Mostly books and curios. I think I got one more box, and the rest I'm going to let go - donate to the next TC sale, if there ever is one.

Had a good talk with Jonny & Gigi about the future. The retail is doing well, which was my division. TC is bleeding with all the schools closed. The tenant, the one that took over our old office last year, is on the verge of bankruptcy. They supply office vending machines - a huge company - the area they rent from TC is just overage.

Said 'farewell' to some of the TC people. They didn't know about the layoffs yet.

I'll go back next week to meet with Kevin and brief him on new responsibilities.

It all tanks if the schools don't come back soon.

Chatted with Patrick for like an hour and a half. Commiserated over TC & KFM. He’s losing motivation, feeling alienated by TC. I feel him. We were kicked to the curb pretty hard and he’s not as sensitive to the financials. Plus he’s equally desperate to secure work. I look forward to when we can meet again in a positive space and just chill with some libations and nerd out. That seems so far away now.

I went down after the last post and slept until about an hour ago so 4 hours = 1 cycle. I dreamt about a Bagua standing pole structure, and finding someone who built one, then figuring out how to shoot and report on it for a mag article. I woke up realizing that would never happen now even if I found one, and then the brain circus started up again. Been trying to get back to sleep but wound up staring into darkness until the sun rose...
