Life is Beautiful - Las Vegas
#61
10.1 miles

Billie was earnest and surprisingly sweet. Also a 3 piece - just her, her brother and a drummer. Imagine if Wednesday Addams became a pop star.

A$ap Rocky did nothing for me.

I had no calls beyond a wheelchair assist.

I walked a bit of Fremont st but it was too nasty and the music was terrible. Walked some casino floors but had no urge to play.

I’d like to get some sleep before I travel.

Well fuck.

I did not sleep. Tossed and turned. Gonna lie in bed until I have to move so at least there’s that. Rm is getting me an Uber to the airport but the details are unclear. I just need to shower and pack - pretty much packed already. I fear the airports will be a cluster again.

Meh. I’m up, showered & packed. Debating whether I should search for food or just wait until check out.

Well, you’ll be excited to know I took care of my final tasks - disposed of incriminating evidence, mailed postcards, and got some breaky snacks from Walgreens.

Fremont is even harsher on Monday mornings after.

Heard Shaed’s hit playing in the casino. I do like that tune. Cool to have caught it last Eve whilst feasting on that vegan bento. That was an extraordinary meal.

Now I guess I’ll just hang out in my room until checkout, then hope there’s some rm exit plan for me. I have no desire to gamble.

So germy

Thought about wiping down a slot machine - so many Asian oriented slots. There’s even a Crazy Rich Asians one. But no. I feel I was lucky to be at LiB and have such a positive experience. If I can just make it home without catching covid, that will be enough.

Were they taking bets or offering odds at the Sportsbook on you catching Covid? I would have gotten in on that action.

Nice that you bumped into ED.

For a future LV trip, this looks pretty amazing:

I figured there was a D00M pool.

Doing some breakdown - folding tiedyes, disassembling pups and drape. Lunch on the way then off to the airport.

ED got back to me when I arrived. We got breaky Saturday and lunch Sunday, and then hung out at the show for a bit. It was the best part of an amazing weekend. Better then the wet lap dance, the Illeneum pit, and sailor mars in the edm hall.

At the gate.

I’m really upset with myself for not grabbing a covid test kit. Rm might be able to hook me up through Levi’s but getting one from LiB would’ve been so easy. Totally my oversight. I had it all set up but relaxed for a moment and then had to hurry.

I’m sleepy. Flashing back to a Shaolin Trip where I was traveling alone and had a layover in. Arita and it was a sterile to stay awake. Due to a snafu in my booking, I’m one of the very last to board. Doesn’t matter - full flight and again, I am alone.

Should board soon.

Stay strong. Don't give up at the end.

Or you could always walk. It might be safer.

Home safe.

Bathing in that savory cool ocean air pouring into my open bedroom window, tinged with just a hint of my neighbor’s marijuana puff. Vegas was so hot and dry. I was constantly hydrating with propel electrolyte powder and managed to stave off those foot and leg cramps that have been ailing me lately at shows. A diabetic thing. After responding to that diabetic crash, it gave me pause (but it turned out he had recently skipped a dialysis session which made it worse).

Sat next to some old chatty dude. Regardless I quickly passed out and remember nothing of the flight.

After embarrassingly forgetting to grab a covid test kit from RM, we bought one from cvs. That was a $40 mistake but it worked with a phone app that made it feel worth it. Talk about 15 mins of suspense as it processes. Seems wasteful in comparison the binax we use at rm which is just a nostril swab and insertion into a test card, the cvs one had a little lab set up that was kinda fun. And yes, I’m negative. Such a relief.

Weird. I just got a whiff of nag champa incense. My neighbors maybe? That’d be a first. Brought me straight back to a dancing chick outside Fremont EDM stage last night - this beautiful woman in a diaphanous Asian genie like outfit waving nag champa sticks. She was nearby me for the final closing tune.

That was a truly beautiful festival, living up to it’s namesake. Founder Tony Hsieh did not leave a Will so the estate including LiB is in contention between his dad and brother. If they don’t resolve their differences, it may be done. I hope not. That would be so sad.

I’m hopeful for next year.

And now...

...sleep.

What a weekend! Our 6th L.i.B.

We had heard of about 5 acts. Doesn't matter. Attended 5 "Cocktail School" classes (3 free drinks and filthy humor).

Hooking up with DM was a hoot! Nacho Daddy was the bomb!

Green Day and Modest Mouse were fun, but100 we were music nomads wandering from stage to stage. I dropped almost $100 in vinyl:

The Flock "Dinosaur Swamps" - $6 (No fucking clue, but it has a gatefold sleeve with pterodactyls)
The Dregs "Industry Standard" - $6 (again - no idea but they are supposed to be country-prog. What the hell is country-prog?)
Dave Davies "Chosen People" - $3 (Ray Davies brother, co-founder of The Kinks)
Marillion "Misplaced Childhood" - $10 (I'm told I should listen to them)
The Moody Blues "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour" - $3 (I love their hits - let's give their albums a shot)*
The Moody Blues "Seventh Sojourn" - $3 ^see above
Mike Oldfield "Five Miles Out" $7 ("Tubular Bells" ("The Excorcist" theme) guy)
10cc "Original Soundtrack" $5 ("I'm Not in Love" and awesome cover art)
Mike Rutherford "Smallcreep's Day" $6 (Genesis bassist solo album)
Split Enz "Waiata" $3 ("Hard Act to Follow" and other great hits)
Ultravox "Lament" $5 (No song listing on sleeve, but a ton of MTV hits)
Rick Wakeman "Journey to the Center ogf the Earth" - $3 (Yes keyboardist, if it sucks, who cares, it was $3)
Paul Williams "Just an Old Fashioned Love Song" - $8 (I love Paul Williams, fuck you)
Yes "Tormato" - $3 (cost less than Paul Williams. Shows what you know.)
Warren Zevon "Bad Luck Streak in Dancing School" (Saying Warren Zevon is the "Werewolves of London" guy is like saying Devo was all about "Whip ItR".
Roger Whittaker "The Last Farewell" -$1 bargain bin. Cherry on top - Dee Dee found this. We both love this album. I love that the title song is ambiguous. I always thought it was about an American loyal to Britain returning home to fight one of many British wars. It's a gorgeous song.

Anyway we spent the day at Area 15.

More to come.

Land the return of ED to the D00M4m is icing. Sweet neon organic glitter icing.

Now sleep. For realz. I got crappy sleep going into this, one melatonin induced cycle each night and just tweaked last night. I really need sleep. Got to let go of the residual vibration echoes no matter how savoring they are. Must work tomorrow. One young RM buck flew out on the red eye last night to work this morning. Feckin bad ass. There was a time when DM had such sleep defying superpowers but that time has long passed.

Sleep. Put down the phone.

Sleep.
