The move went well, all things considered. Our TC Media crew pulled together nicely. It was bonding, as if we needed to bond anymore after working together for 19 years. TC is lame. They don't have good space awareness and stood in our way when we were moving large pieces of furniture. If you combine all the years of everyone on TC's floor now, all the phone operators, minus one dude, any one of our TC Media crew has more years, more than all of them combined.
Due to the forum crash, the posts about our warehouse lead losing 8 members of his family to a horrific car crash in Mexico last Saturday was lost. I don't know how he keeps going. So brutal. I'm sure the photos of the bodies are haunting some of the other employees who looked. I've seen my share of that stuff, some of it live and in person, so it's not an issue. But still, I can't but feel for him. He's mi amigo.
I have a large wood desk. It's press board, but I'm attached to it because it's wood, and it's L-shaped. I let go of my second metal desk. I had the contractor chop a foot off one section so it would fit. Most of my key stuff is moved, including some choice DOOM stuff like some KB paintings (not hung yet but soon), a yeti voodoo doll (the torch broke so if things seem dark, PPFY, that was an accident) and the scotty plate (beam me up, dammit!) There's still a ton of stuff on the other side - so many books and mags and some dumb knick knacks - I'll KonMarie that. I have more time for that. My new space is cozy, like a space capsule... or a sarcophagus.
I should also mention that the remodel not only includes moving that chunk of the warehouse. They are also retiling the bathrooms and the kitchen/lunch room. So the entire place is a shambles. We (meaning all the warehouse, TC & TC Media) have to walk across the warehouse to our old office to piss, crap or get hot water, which is being moved about and still accepting containers (gotta keep the money flowing, especially now).
Oh wait, not hot water. Our IT couldn't figure out the hot water safety button on our filter. I showed him. He didn't quite get it so he forced it. There was an audible snap and I told him 'hey, don't break it.' He said he didn't. But a little while later, the hot water spigot started dripping uncontrollably, and fortunately someone caught it before it was all flooded. Now we must get bottled water and heat it in the microwave. Which is in the warehouse. In a shambles. Because the kitchen is being retiled. I can't bitch at him too much though because he did a great job setting up my PCs. Plus he needs to fix my remote access tomorrow. After that, maybe I'll bitch at him. He rejected the idea of being in our office space, so it's just the core four of TC Media and everyone is happier for that.
I took today off, not because it's my birthday, but because I had to shuttle my mom to her medical appointments. I'm glad of the break from the chaos. Back at it tomorrow.
