Life is Beautiful - Las Vegas
#16
I prefer 'unstuck' over 'unmoored'.

"All of this happened, more or less."

I've reached out to a few Vegas friends to tell them I'll be in town. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll have any spare time to visit. It's more to see if they will be at LiB.

Also, the Meow Wolf bots have tuned into my upcoming trip. I'm being bombarded by Omega Mart ads in my socials (see https://meowwolf.com/visit/las-vegas if you aren't familiar). I really do want to check out Area51, but I think I'll have my hands full with my present situation.

George RR. Martin helped establish a Meow Wolf gallery (?) in Santa Fe. I've heard a bit about them.

Are they putting you up at a hotel or are you bringing your trusty tent to the venue? Which venue, btw?

Is El Dingo going to be in attendance? i thought this was one of his concerts.

The atomic test museum is a fun visit, as is the Neon graveyard museum - I think they Mars attacks aliens are there. If you can’t make the latter, I think you can tour virtually…

I'm to be picked up at the airport by my own personal squad of showgirl ninjettes in a dragon-adorned maybach and escorted to my private suite at the Golden Nugget. There awaits a bottle of 25 year Powers, a nacho cheese fountain, top shelf herb, assorted stimulants, a spandex supersuit, a sharp epee, a stack of casino chips, a vat of purell, and a loaded walther ppk. At the venue, I have my own office, a pop-up tripper tent with a lovely tiedye banner, astroturf, and a stuffed bunny.

This is assuming they follow everything in my rider.

I know my 'office' exists. I've been texted a photo. I'm not into the astroturf (it's weird shit when trippin...um...so I've been told). The bunny looks comforting.

LiB takes place across 16 city blocks of downtown Vegas. I've been looking for a 2021 map but have yet to find one (you'd think they'd put that on the site).

No idea about ED. I should text him.

The tell is the Golden Nugget. I'm not sure they even have sweets anymore. I'm told they don't have microwaves. Barbaric.

But at this point, I do have my own private room. We'll just see if that holds true.

Stay tuned.

Not sweets, suites. Can't blame that on spelchuk. Or can I?

I have the site map and a 30+ page staff manual.

Turns out Meow Wolf is doing an installation within the festival grounds. Yay. Also, staff isn't required to be there until after lunch. Not sure if this is really true. Not sure of anything. This one is a big fat wild card. We shall see.

Just looked at the iine-up. Sad to be missing.... Deepak Chopra???? I like one of Noah Cyrus's songs. I only know one of Noah Cyrus's songs. Maybe she'll cover 'Nothing Else Matters' like her sister. You also can see Willow Smith! I'd be up for Haim, St. Vincent and Modest Mouse.

Are you going up today or tomorrow?

Thanks!

@SJC. It’s pretty empty and people are keeping decent distance except for the Israelis (I think) who sat right next to me when there’s a whole freakin row they could have nearby.

The southwest queuing looks scrunchy. SW just didn’t design for social distancing.

Boarded. Full flight. Bummer.

It’s been a freakin cluster since the flight. LAS was packed. The lobby of the Golden Nugget was packed. So many people. Dirty germy people. Been washing my hands like Lady macbeth - mask & goggles full on.

Hooked up with another RM friend at the airport who got a major runaround. Saw another in line. There’s supposed to be a dinner. Bit of a snafu with my hotel reservation but I have a double all to myself with a commanding view of the parking lot. I’ll head out to get my credentials soon.

It’s in the high 90s. Luv that.

Our director took us out to Herbs & Rye - a steakhouse that also specializes in vintage cocktails. I broke my seafood rule (so far from the ocean right now) and went for the salmon. It was okay, a bit dry which was hidden by a heavy tomato cream sauce. And I forwent the fancy schmancy cocktails for a redbreast 12 neat. There were 16 of us and most went to Absinthe, some cirque wannabe, but I bailed with our medical director, lead nurse (the only one senior to me in years volunteering), our director and his right hand man. They drove us around the venue - which is huge - and into main Med, which is one of the best rm set ups ever.

I was dropped off at the hotel and walked downtown which was packed and felt like a supersoreader event. Couldn’t find any postcards. I guess those are a thing of the past. Found some pot shops but they were super expensive - like $10 joints - but they were right on the walk. Crazy. I’m remembering how covert we had to be back in the day because it was such a heavy bust in NV. I retreated to my room and may just watch some tv.

Still recovering from yesterday’s allergy attack. Just gonna chill...

Maybe...
