Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 10-20-2014 A killer drives a Mercedes into a crowd of people, kills eight and injures a bunch. He drives off into the fog never to be heard from again. It's the one case Detective Bill Hodges never solved before he retired. Retirement is a downward spiral into depression and thoughts of suicide until Mr Mercedes sends him a note. It's a straight ahead mystery novel without any supernatural horror. There is plenty of ordinary horror what with the murders and other horrible events but no ghosts or midnight creatures. He does dedicate the book to James M. Cain. It was pretty good. I do like the direction the most recent novels are taken. I've found that I like King's style, very clear, but I haven't really cared for the subjects he writes about. But if he writes more crime stories like this, I'll read them Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King - El Dingo - 02-16-2015 Mr. Mercedes is an example of a Stephen King afterthought. He read about some octagenarian plowing into a farmer's market and thought 'what if that was intentional?'. He then generates a character who does that for a hoot (by hoot I mean repressed sexual stimulation) and the retired cop who tries to catch him. It's a fast 'summer crap' read but beneath what you expect from King. Especially after reading something as deep as "11/22/63". Whatever. Stephen King books are like sex and pizza 'even when it's bad, it's good'. Re: Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 02-16-2015 Wow. That looks just like a review seven or eight lines down. Moving to merge. |
