Sinead O'Connor ~ Throw Down Your Arms - Drunk Monk - 10-20-2005

I'm still listening to this one. It is absolutely one of the best reggae albums I've heard in years. Every track shines (although it took me a while to warm up to Curly Locks and Vampire).

My next birthday bash - Drunk Monk - 01-01-2006

Sinead's Throw Down Your Arms tour will be at the Warfield March 1st, the day after my birthday. I'm getting tickets, not working. It's been a while since I've bought tickets for the Warfield. Care to join us?

Cole, it's right up the street from your lair, but it'll be a rasta soul shakedown and Yetis might be allergic to dreadlocked wookies.

It's on a Wednesday - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 01-02-2006

I'm out. It's probably ends beyond my bedtime, too. Tell me if they play Dreadlock Holiday, the best reggae song ever, as sung by two white guys.

Warfield? - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 01-02-2006

That is a fine name for a building!

All klingonisms aside, I'll pass, but if you are gonna be in the neighborhood, let's hook up before hand. I have quite a bit of whiskey and tequilla since people give me bottles of the stuff and I drink only a little at a time.

It's DOOM rasta only, and there are only 2 or 3 of us - Drunk Monk - 01-02-2006

Dreadlock Holiday is classic, but it lacks the true one drop. It's another attempt at pop rock to reconcile nyabingi riddem and if I was into that, I could go back to Kauai and dial up their 24/7 reggae and island radio station. How I miss my Kauai mustang convertible. Actually, that's what I liked most about Sinead's album - she went for the roots unlike so many other rockers who tried to popify the sound. Take No Doubt, for example, again with Sly and Robbie. I enjoyed that album, but I worked that tour (in the pit, no less). Gwen Stephani understands dancehall well, but she's not roots reggae, and despite the ever-appealing sex-up factor, it's roots natty roots for me.

I'll take a raincheck on the way to the yeti bar. Whiskey is always warming between old friends, but tequila usually leads to kareoke and I don't want to go there with you. No offense. I'll probably be coming up from work so I doubt I'll have time that day, being Wednesday and all.

i have tickets on the floor - Drunk Monk - 01-07-2006

i just heard that damien marley is playing at the warfield on the 11th, but there's no way i can afford that too. i'll try work that. but i'm in the house for sinead. i know a few others that will be joining me too, including one DOOM bro, i think...

STILL IN THE ENTROPY ZONE - Drunk Monk - 01-21-2006

I just heard the show was cancelled. I'm so bummed out.

You are surprised? - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 01-23-2006

I thought that was Sinead's M.O. Make a booking, break a booking. Or is there some other reason? Maybe she realized Reggae without the ton just isn't happening? Face it, Reggae is passed. Long Live Sean Paul, Long Live Rihanaa, Long Live Reggaeton. Come, Mr DJ won't you turn the music up. The Kids on the dance floor wanting some more.

She's always showed when I've seen her before... - Drunk Monk - 01-23-2006

..we have a rasta saying - 'soon come'

I actually like Sean Paul for what he is and was disappointed that I didn't get out to see him when he came through last. I bet he can really sex up the dancehall. I'm sure the same is true for a good reggaeton. I'll get out to see them someday. :-)

Next in the queue, hopefully, Matisyahu...

Speaking of Songs overplayed on the Radio - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 01-23-2006

Matisyahu, two days in a row at the exact same time on the radio. KROQ (Your Friends) love to play songs into the ground.

- El Dingo - 01-24-2006

I went to an Entertainment Weekly party and they gave us Green Day and Matisyahu CDs.

I play Green Day a lot but have yet to unwrap Matisyahu.

DIBS!! - Drunk Monk - 01-24-2006

I'll gladly take that Matisyahu CD off your hands, ED, especially if it's the new one mixed by Bill Laswell. Big Grin

Reggae on the River - Drunk Monk - 04-11-2006

Sinead O'Connor, Sly & Robbie and Sean Paul are all booked for Reggae on the River this year. :-D
