Check the free page on Craigslist and the Nextdoor “For Sale & Free” section and/or Freecycle Santa Cruz: http://groups.freecycle.org/SantaCruzCA Or Sunnyvale:

https://groups.freecycle.org/group/SunnyvaleCA/posts/all

Usually you can find some real cheap to free.

We've used that to get rid of stuff but strangely, never to acquire anything.

I'll probably just invest in new speakers. They aren't too expensive. I used to have two nice sets at the office but they couldn't be found.

I just got shipped a 27" Apple Thunderbolt monitor. An accompanying Mac is on the way, as well as a power system to save me during blackouts.

Now...wth do I do with this handmedown TC PC?

Those Apple monitors are sweet. We stopped using them at work because the Dells are so much cheaper.

RE: My job is not so bad... - Drunk Monk - 07-28-2021

I'm gonna need a bigger desk...

RE: My job is not so bad... - Greg - 07-29-2021

Keep the old monitor and ship the Apple Monitor to me.....

The annoying thing is that I just got my office nook feng shui where everything was flowing nicely. I even got my old boom box placed for easy access and optimal stereo. Now I've got this huge Apple monitor sucking up one corner of my desk and pushing everything askew.

I need a small desk extension but in order to place that, I also need to move the TV out of the north chamber and into the living room, and scoot the bookcase over.

I think Tara's old desk (which I've stolen) is an ikea unit. Maybe it's component. I must match it somehow - at least get the same desk height.

I can't wait to fire this bad boy up. I've never had a mac. I used Stacy's for a few years when I first started telecommuting once a week from the Cruz until she got fed up with me and got me the Surface Pro laptop. I love this laptop. And I just made my peace with the handmedown PC. But this new axe...a fully loaded mac - it's gonna be so sweet.

On the downside, you realize that now you won't be getting those constant reminders from Microsoft to switch to the superior Edge browser.

My YMAA iMac is here. It's magnificent. I've never had an axe like this. It's a double axe - two monitors. Crazy sharp resolution and sound.

Now to figure out how to interface with Mac again...

RE: My job is not so bad... - Drunk Monk - 01-21-2022

I just turned down two jobs. I must be at a more stable point to do that, right? Or maybe I'm just overwhelmed.

Den asked me to cover the new Iron Fist comic but I don't really know that much about it beyond the Netflix series and that was as painful as CW Kung Fu. Plus I've got too much going on to meet deadline.

A Tai Chi master asked me to copy edit her book. It's short and she's willing to pay but I don't have the time. She wrote for KFTC and is a horridly bad writer. It's feeling like too much trouble like someone asking you to fix up their junker car for under a few hundred bucks.

That’s encouraging. Celebrate with a cheese.

RE: My job is not so bad... - Drunk Monk - 01-21-2022

Good idea.

I got some lovely smoked gouda, some sharp cheddar, some havarti, and some triscuit-like pepper crackers. But next...whiskey.

Back at work after a week vacation

Personal emails = 200+ Half spam
YMAA emails = 180+ A quarter spam
KFM emails 200+ 80% spam

This doesn’t count the dozen or so texts, plus direct messages…

Alas, to be back on the mountaintop where there’s no wood service…

RE: My job is not so bad... - Greg - 08-21-2022

Plenty of wood service on the mountain.
