I have a cold. And when I went to pick up the newspaper yesterday morning, in my cold-induced grogginess, I split my head open on a nail that sticks out of our front door. I have a good inch-long gash on my right temple. Stupid. Nothing like chasing 18 wushu champs around our studio, trying to manage my broken mandarin, with a cold and a busted head.
The funny thing is that my office workers have asked about the bandage. I've been replying 'ninjas. damn ninjas. hazard of my job here.' And they've been accepting that. :-o They know that I'm the only one here who has repeated taken a punch, in a very real sense, for the company. :?

OK, this is not about my job, but one of the fencers at my club works for the auction house Bonham's and Butterfield's. He was wondering why there was so much activity around one of the desks in the Recent Acquisitions. Turns out that a phaser (type II) and one of Shatner's uniforms (down to the boots) from the last season of Star Trek had just arrived.

The Shaolin monk who we just put on the cover brought by some 'thank you' gifts.
I got some Shaolin medicine slippers and a Shaolin massage rod.
The slippers have a wood base and little nubs of wood, magnets and jade to stimulate accupoints on my feet. G2 got a pair too and she says they are too painful to wear. I wouldn't say they are painful, but I wouldn't walk across the warehouse and back in them.
The massage stick is a beautiful piece of stained bamboo with a slit down the center, which makes a loud clacking sound when you hit yourself with it properly. Shaolin massage rod is carved in the handle in Chinese.
G2 got a Shaolin medicine pillow. It's a tube about 4-5" in diameter and maybe a foot long of golden dragon-embroidered silk, filled with bamboo cinders (I think).

Just last week, I was complaining that I was running out of tea. Many of the VIPs coming in for KFTC 20 YEARS have been bringing gifts. I now have four boxes of premium tea. No one else in the office drinks tea, so it's all mine, Mine, MINE! :-D

Today, I played cinematographer on a commercial for a personal Heimlich maneuver device. It was shot at Lee Merriweather's daughter's house. There was a nice pic of Lee and daughter with Lee in her catwoman suit on the Batman set.
LM,s daughter usually is the stunt double for Sigourney Weaver and worked on the Alien film I worked on. The producer for the film is a stunt man in Hollywood and had as many if not more Hollywood horror stories than I. One of his claim to fames was being in the dog suit for Cujo. The star of our little productions was Skippy from Family Ties. Yes, watch your head, I'm dropping names.

Lady Cranefly here. Aside from having my vacation days ruined by Boson Higgs, my job isn't so bad. I might get to meet Alan Alda this fall.
