RIP Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay

She was one of two women that were members of the Dead. But she was there with her first husband Keith on keys back in the 70s before my time. Her contributions to the Dead sound varied from on point to off key. She did sweeten harmonies, particularly with Bobby, but sometimes when she was freestyle singing, it threw the jam into blandness.

I saw her several times in the scene but only once singing after Jerry died. That was a show at the Mo, Dark Star Orchestra, probably my least fav Dead cover band. They try to reproduce shows note-for-note. Donna wasn’t bad that night. I’ll be watching the deadhead reaction on socials…
