The Beekeeper (2024)
#1
I saw this on MGM+ as part of their free weekend.

Jason Statham does Jason Statham things!

This is one of those films I'm sure everyone else will accuse me of not liking because I don't like fun things. Noted.

Statham plays Adam Cale an actual Beekeeper who lives on the back of the property of Phylicia Rashad. Rashad gets swindled out of millions of dollars in an online scam and kills herself. Cale goes on a path of revenge to kill the people who did this to her. But it's more than that because Cale is a Beekeeper which is a super secret organization tasked with protecting the hive when it gets out of whack. There are a lot of bee analogies in this picture all told in Statham's gravely voice. The movie really ramps it up by having other characters do the bee analogies, too, which includes Minnie Driver and Jeremy Irons. Lots of people looking for paychecks.

There are plenty of fight scenes but I'm guessing Statham isn't as spry as he used to be because they are all very choppy. Lots of cuts. Both in the editing and during the knife fights. There is some ludicrously bad CGI especially the flames. The whole quest for justice is inexorable with plenty of impossible fight scenes.

The Queen hated it. I was mildly entertained. I laughed at the mini-gun reveal. I did laugh out loud at some absurdity.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
