Wham!
#1
The story of Wham! or moreover, the story of George Michael coming into his own. One of the Wham! moms kept scrapbooks of everything, so there was a lot of material to draw from. Andrew and George met when they were around 12 at school. They were best friends with George being the shy one and Andrew instigating...as young teens, they formed their first band - a 5 piece ska band. In the doc, they played a clip of their version of Fur Elise which was actually not bad...

Fast forward, that band falls apart. The two of them continue together and eventually form Wham! The doc doesn't really get into George's voice - where he learned to sing. He came from a very strict home. His father wouldn't let him buy records or use the stereo, so where did he learn to sing?

TIL:
- they co-wrote "Careless Whisper" - they independently came up with songs with the same chord progression at the same time and put them together
- George recorded an early version of "Careless Whisper" at Muscle Shoals, but didn't like the production, so redid it

I have a feeling the various interviews weren't recorded at the same time, but I think the doc did a very good job at splicing them all together into a narrative.

Not recommended unless you are into Music docs, George Michael, or Wham!

I worked 3 nights of Michael’s Faith tour at Shoreline in 88. All sold out shows. They curtained the stage and it opened with the curtains parting just enough to spotlight Michael’s ass. It was a legendary run, a part of a hell week where we worked 6 nights in a row. They gave us a special button to commemorate our efforts.
