Julia Roberts is Julia but Sean Penn, wow, I wouldnt have even known it was him had not Stacy tipped me off. Great make up job.
It’s 70s retro - a watergate tale - a bannerman show for Starz - and okay so far. It’s got style and a power cast. Dan Stevens is shockingly American, again almost unrecognizable. And Liddy is hilariously over the top.
I don’t quite remember who is who from watergate but I’m not going to sneak a wiki refresh and let this show run it’s course to entertain me. Not sure how many eps. Stacy planned to binge it all in a week free trial but it’s weekly so we’re stuck with Starz for now.

And yet, here you are in Amazon Prime. You really have gone Rogue.
I would like to see this. Hopefully, I'll be able to catch up when Start does a Free Preview Weekend.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

E4 already. Still good. The culprits are such buffooons. The republican orgy was a lot of boobs. Julia & Sean are killing it. I was particularly impressed by Julia’s portrayal of being drunk in diazepam.
Strangely funny and the 70s nostalgia is on point. The electric can opener really got me melancholy, as did the scene from Rosemary’s Baby.

Still enjoying this. It has such a wry wit and a keen eye for nostalgia of the period. Sharp direction, solid acting and direction, compelling story. Sean and Julia are killing it. Dan is also on point. It’s funny what I remember about watergate. I don’t remember Martha Mitchell at all.

E8 It’s losing some of its initial steam but still impressive with the nostalgia. Stacy spotted something about women’s skin tones being seasonal that she totally remembered (I had no clue).
What I like about the show is that it’s focusing on the women and the one person of color.
It kinda bugs me that Penn has this amazing make up job while Roberts looks like she always does (except the hoofed hair).

I think that was the penultimate ep. The gaslit bit fully comes into play with Martha and Julia reminds us that she can still act exhibiting many angles into Martha’s breakdown. But what got me was Liddy in prison - his psychotic battle with the rats is over-the-top great.

And done.
That was quite good. It was fine storytelling and superbly acted, with waves of nostalgia and an echo of history. I have vague memories of watergate and this, albeit historical fiction, put some pieces in place and now I know what the Martha Mitchell syndrome is all about. The humor is biting and got a real lol out of me.
In contrast to Jan 6, watergate seems like a misdemeanor
D00M recommended.
