8-Bit Christmas (2021)

The ads work! I might be in. I'm a sucker for a good Christmas story.

As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

And seen. It was kind of a cute holiday movie full of nostalgia, if you can believe it, for the late 1980s. There are a lot of strong echoes of a Christmas Story mixed with the storytelling device of The Princess Bride.

Neil Patrick Harris recounts to his daughter all the different things he had to do in order to get a Nintendo entertainment system for Christmas, a gift every kid in town wanted. Various plots are laid with Neil's early teen friends to get the system. They have adventures with the one kid in town who has one. There is a sales gimmick to win one. Eventually a plot is hatched to buy one. Along the way Neil or the kid playing his younger alter ego has to deal with a bratty sister and a not very good handyman father played by Steve Zahn.

The whole movie was kind of entertaining but the ending was very sweet. No sword fights. No tentacles. Lots of 80s music.

And like in Princess Bride, the young boy is a Bears fan.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
