Why do I still bother. I haven't thought a Bond film has capture his essence since, well you know, . .
Which begs the question: Why do I still bother?
Because, maybe, just maybe, if I'm good and I floss, the good thing will happen. And I do floss and it did happen. Casino Royale was a good film. Granted they updated the story to reflect our times and they lost Baccarat to No Limit Hold'em, but it didn't bother me so much. they even kept some of the elements of the original story. How odd. Some of Flemings work actually making it up onto the big screen.
Daniel Craig makes a great bond. He's buff and tough and can dish it out with the best of them. The opening action sequence was fantabulous. Totally unbelievable but great.
It bogs down towards the end as they strive to tell the story and they don't have many places left to go. But bless their little hearts for a bit of honest to goodness storytelling. When was the last time they tried that in a Bond film. The Villian, LeChiffre even had a motivation besides being the guy in the credits listed under villain.
Yes, there were cool lines. Yes, there was product placement (Strangely, I long now for a SonyErricson phone) There was even some self deprecating humour with a nod to the previous Bond films.
Go see it instead of getting shot trying to buy the new Playstation3

I think the first shows were last night, but still. You losers with jobs are getting left in the dust from the Bentley (Car, not woodbeast) Plus, I couldn't see another ad for the film without seeing the film before I snapped.

It's PG, for god's sake!
I mean, I've seen some previews. I like the new Bond. I think he could kick a martial artist in the ben wahs and maybe get away with it.
He has a nice menacing look that cleans the Roger Moore aftertaste from the palate.
Okay, I misspelled palate. But you get my point, even if you don't agree.
But PG? Again I say for god's sake. It's an insult to Fleming and Bond. It giggles at a vehicle that should (and used to) dare.
Now I suppose you'll all tell me the Bond films have always been PG. But I recall flashes of nudity. Ursula Andress. Emma Peele. Okay, not Emma, but Ursula. Or maybe that's just what I wanted. Am I remembering my past all wrong?
I hate you, James Bond! You're screwing with my mind! I'll never watch another Bond movie in my life!
Unless I change my mind tomorrow...
Were there at least lemons?

Never nudity, just plenty of skin. Now you'll have to go back and review to support your argument. Ha
There was still sex. Plenty of eye candy. Including this one blond who wore the best outfits.
I believe in the last film they toyed with the the idea of actually having a topless scene, but in the end they realized more money is made from a PG movie than an R anyday. In case you didn't know, it is all about the money.
However, Daniel Craig was topless in many scenes and fully nude in another, but you never got to see the nasty bits.

It's not PG, it's PG-13. So there. And I've now seen it twice. The nephew had never seen a Bond film and I decided to correct that flaw in his upbringing. Keep those Happy Feet coming.

It rocked. Made my top three, tying with Goldfinger for the bronze (From Russia with Love and You Only Live Twice taking Gold and Silver).
Told a story, no gadgets, great fights, hot chicks. Even The Grrl liked it.
Go see it now!

In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.
I have to admit, Connery has always been my favorite Bond, and that isn't likely to change. But this was a nice change of pace, a refreshingly different take on the whole Bond franchise. I thoroughly enjoyed it for most of the reasons already cited. True, there was no T and A, but I'll accept that as part of the marketing. All in all, a fun Saturday afternoon outing.
But here's a question maybe one of you can answer. Why, after the hotel concierge tells him to have a nice day, does Peter Sellers turn and slug him in the mouth?

We said the fights were great, we didn't say they made sense. Besides, the spell broke for me when Peter O'Toole had a cameo as a highland Piper.
This was far and away the best Woody Allen vehicle ever!

beg to differ, oh Yeti On The Hill.
Woody Allen's best = What's Up, Tiger Lily?
Best dubbed Japanese movie ever. Even better than Attack of the Mushroom People.
And believe me: I looooove AotMP. "....and so.... I ATE SOME!!!!"
Ah, what memories.

...but I always love psychedelic rooms.
My fav Woody Allen remains Take the Money and Run. And I hated Attack of the Mushroom People because they totally blew the psychedelic scene. A showgirl doing backflips in front of neon signs? It almost scared me straight off drugs.

Uh, I was going with CF's Casino Royale thread. If asked in a Woody Allen thread what my fav movie of his was, i would go with Tigerlily, too.

Okay, the truth be known, I did see the new Casino Royale.
There was a car chase, I think. But it must have been short or brilliant because I can't recall any of the details. This is a good thing. I hate movies where they relegate 20 minutes to a car chase that makes absolutely no sense (in most cases, the person being chased could just pull over and stop, and nothing bad would come of it).
As for Daniel Craig, this is what lady cranefly said as we were leaving the theater: "He's got high man-boobs -- and a long torso. He's built like a gorilla."
I think maybe as a teenager he got caught up in weightlifting and -- as typical in a high school without supervision -- built up his arms and shoulders and little else. Later he worked out more evenly, but that signature remains. Then again, what do I know.
We were both impressed by him though.
