Ive been avoiding films tackling racial issues mostly because I see enough of it in the news already. This certainly has race issue themes, but it’s surprisingly sweet - it’s actually an Xmas film of sorts. I didn’t blow me away or anything. Ali & Mortenson deprived solid performances, although I was a tad put off by the teaching how to eat KFC scene - that’s remedied later in Ali’s most character-revealing scene. As Oscar picks go, it reminded me of The Favourite - a good film but not absolutely enthralling or overly important.

No great surprises. It seems like a well trod path of characters. He's a racist. He's a black guy. Although I still don't understand the hat stealing story in the beginning and how it paid off.

There was some nice affecting scenes especially when the Doctor gets arrested.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

In retrospect now, this feels like a racial-topic flick written by white guys to feel good about having a black friend.
