The Guards
#1
It was supposed to be Detective Dee but again there were no subtitles. So, again I switched from China to Ireland.

The Guards is based on a Ken Bruen novel of the same centered on the Irish Detective, Jack Taylor. Well sort of. They don't go for detectives in Ireland. The movie and the book both take place in Galway on the West Coast of Ireland. On that count, I thoroughly enjoyed the game of where are they in Galway. I knew most of the places.

As far as translating book to screen, I'm going to have to say it is a fail. The enjoyment for me of the books is the character of Taylor, who is a full blown alcoholic and most of the book deals with Taylor's struggles. They mystery he sets out to investigate is merely an afterthought.

The movie turns that on it's head. The mystery is the main thing. I never buy into Taylor's alcoholism. They do bring it up and he does have black outs, but as soon as those devices are over he's back to being the detective with all his faculties intact.

Read the books.
So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit
