Flogging Molly 03/10/12, Fox Theater, Oakland, CA
#1
Some folks celebrate Xmas all year 'round. Some folks live like Halloween is everyday. Those of us with Irish/Scottish blood toast to St. Patrick at every opportunity. Like when you play a Pogues or Flogging Molly song.

After a hearty meal at Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe (including a famous Black Juju) we joined the (mistakenly) kilted throng at The Fox for an evening of the thrash-banjo, power-accordion, one-chord fiddle screamfest known as Flogging Molly.

The band opened with 'Drunken Lullabies' and stormed through a nearly 2 hour set of rebellious working-class songs centered on drinking and defiance. Every song had the energy of a grand finale. From the contentious 'Rebels of the Bleeding Heart' to the ode to hangovers - 'The Worst Day Since Yesterday' it was non-stop Celtic speed-punk.

It's so weird going to punk shows where most of the sold-out audience is over 40.
