I think this was a preview for another movie I rented recently. Lots of sword fights. Digital blood a la 300. Very pretty to look at. I saw at the end that this is a Tarsem Singh movie. He did The Cell and The Fall (which I brought to a previous DOOM gathering). Both were also pretty to look at, but here, the movie was completely unengaging. William Hurt and Mickey Rourke were OK, but nothing was interesting at all. The Minotaur scene sucked. Really a meh movie that looked really great. (Except for the Gods who were stuck wearing really silly costumes...)

It's available on Netflix streaming, and it's a dimly lit film. I hear it had good 3D.
I have an odd relationship to this film. I went to Wondercon 2011 to interview Saorsie Ronan in Hanna, just for fun really, and there was a press junket for Immortals (see fb album http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 362&type=1). Our graphic artist was into it as he had heard some buzz, so we went. He went on to do a review of it as we were offered the screener, but I wasn't that into it.
I'm tired of Mickey Rourke. I've never really liked him. Frieda was totally under used. I kept wanting to see an alien pop our of Hurt's chest (btw, tg, you mean John, not William). I don't think I like Tarsem overall. He delivers some interesting scenes and I relate to his super saturated color schemes as part of his Bollywood roots, but he still hasn't delivered a film that was completely satisfying. Mirror Mirror was almost there - I liked that it ended with a Bollywood number. His best stuff is his B&D imagery. All that taken into account, the fight scenes were really entertaining. Fun sword fights. If I was just watching those cut together, and put on my own music, I'd really enjoy it. Tarsem really needs a good script.
