It's the Tom Petty story told by Peter Bogdonavich. When I was hearing the Dave Grohl interviews about his documentary for the Foo Fighters, he said this was the documentary he wanted to emulate because it was so good. And it was. It's extensive. It is four hours long.
I learned a lot about Tom and the boys. It goes into detail about the bands early struggles. It talks about the Wilburies and how it formed. They mention that Dave Grohl was almost the drummer for the Heartbreakers. It talks about every album they've made up until 2006. (there would have been a really good coda to the film if it was made later and covered the reuniting of Mudcrutch, Tom's first band) It talks about why Stan Lynch left the band. I thought Howie Epstein left the band. But no, he died from a heroin overdose.
It recounts all the stories you might have heard stories of. But carve out some time. Because it is long. But good. But long.
