Adrian Brody does his best Christian Bale as Batman impersonation in this new chapter in the Predator franchise. When I first heard that Bale was playing the Schwarzenegger role, I chuckled. But, Brody does a serviceable job as the leader of the killers trapped on the Predators game preserve planet.
I think what ruins this movie is all the movies the Predator movies that have come before. You know what the Predators are all about. You know they hunt things as their national calling. If this was the first film in the series, it would have come across as fairly good. The tension was good throughout except for a few draggy talky bits in the middle. Topher Grace was another odd bit of casting, but at least he got to play Topher Grace. His character was the mystery of the movie because he didn't fit in with the rest of the killers.
The end should have had a bigger climactic baddy battle, but it didn't. The film ends with an opening for a sequel. I'll probably see that when it comes out on DVD.
