Anyone seen it?

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0460791/">http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0460791/</a><!-- m -->

It's been playing at the Nick few a few weeks. I think I'll catch it before it disappears.

Ok...I didn't get to see it last weekend, so I took my folks to see it at Camera 3 this weekend.

First: thumbs up. Go see it before it disappears. The cinematography is amazing. You can take stills from almost any scene and frame them. Visually, it reminded me of something Cirque du Soleil would do - amazing costumes, sets, locations, silks, textures, colors...

Story-wise, it's like "Baron von Munchhausen", or "Princess Bride", although more like the first - definitely influenced by Terry Gilliam. It's the story of a silent film stunt man who gets injured and while he is in the hospital and is befriended by a little girl who he tells an epic story. He tells the story, but her imagination is what we see - love her interpretation of an "Indian" and a "wigwum".

There are lots of stunts in the movie including one where a rider gets shot, does a backwards summersault over the rear of the horse, and hits the ground on his head. I suspect that that stuntman broke his neck and is paralyzed now. I like the "tribute" they include to all the silent film stunts.

This movie was finished in 2006, but hit the theaters here a few weeks ago with little promotion. At the end of the credits, they mention that this story was based on a Bulgarian film called "Yo Ho Ho".

Again, go see it before it disappears.

I'm waiting for the DVD so I can see the "Making of..."

i'm imagining the director putting together all those shots locales, explaining through interpreters what the film is going to be about, getting exclusive access to whirling dervishes and a balinesian monkey chant. what a fun way to tour the world.
