Ninja Assassin
#1
The next film from the Wachowski brothers is called Ninja Assassin. Isn't that redundant?

Quote:McTeigue Casts Yune In Ninja

Rick Yune has been cast as the antagonist in Ninja Assassin, the Wachowskis-produced action film James McTeigue is directing for Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Joel Silver is producing via Dark Castle, while Grant Hill is producing.

Also boarding the production are Naomie Harris as the female lead and Ben Miles.

The martial-arts extravaganza stars Korean actor-singer Rain, who also appears in the siblings' Speed Racer, as a man brought up in an orphanage functioning as a ninja farm. The man turns his back on his tradition to make his way in the modern world, which brings him into conflict with a ninja (Yune) from the clan.
So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit

Boingboing.tv interview with John Gaeta about upcoming file "Ninja Assassin" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1186367

Quote:Due in theaters this fall, director James McTeigue's Ninja Assassin follows the story of Raizo (played by Asian mega-popstar Rain), one of the world's most deadly assassins. As Gaeta explains in this video, the movie merges blindingly badass Bruce-Lee-esque martial arts stunt work with tastefully integrated post processing work.

It's from the makers of Tokyo Gore Police and Machine Girl. I've been told TGP is way over the top, like MG on steroids. I've held that DVD in my hands, specifically with DOOM in mind, but I wasn't sure if it was the proper platform so I didn't invest in it. But I can always go back to that store - it's right by my office in an Asian strip mall.

TGP needs a little trailer love too. Heart

The DOOM chuckle - it bubbles out of each of us when there's a moment of real horrorshow ultravi. The yeti probably has the best DOOM chuckle because it takes a lot to get one out of him. LB has more of a DOOM guffaw, which is often accompanied by an orgasmic shout akin to a football fan when his team makes a critical interception. But we all do it.

The first scene in NA delivers a blood-soaked DOOM chuckle. And there are more. The film revitalizes the ninja genre and brings back the the big bad daddy of all ninjas, Sho Kosugi, in a perfectly tailored role. The fights are frenetic, lots of wirework and CGI, hard to see since they're all wearing black and in the shadows, but satisfying in their ninjaness. It's all digital blood, and you all know my general disdain for that. I want real fluids squirting over the actors and as they dodge lopped off mannequin limbs. There's something that's just too clean about the digital stuff. It's too easy to manipulate. With the real squirts, they have to strive to get it in one take, or they have to clean up a lot. From a martial choreography perspective, I have more respect for that because its more authentic. But I'll let the digital blood slide for NA. Here, the translucency of the sanguine splash was remarkably satisfying. The digital falling limbs were good too. That first DOOM chuckle won me over. It's all about the tongue. The first DOOM chuckle is early, but the film avoid the error that so many martial arts films have made of late. The fights are spaced out well enough, and they build to a climactic final battle, complete with another DOOM chuckle. I'll overlook the poaching of the first kill scene from Casino Royale.

Rain carries the lead role astonishingly well. There's a good in-joke about his looks, but he has a slow-burning depth from his rather controversial and tragic rise to Korean stardom that totally works for this. I'm scheduled to interview him on Monday and am really looking forward to that. Naomi Harris and Anna Sawai carry their roles well as the hotties in peril. Yune scowls well as the villain. Colin was dropped. But it's really all about Sho.

The bottom line of NA is this:
SHO IS BACK!!!

Title: "Sho 'Nuff!" Now you just have to write the rest of the article. A longer piece could be "Sho and Tell".

Not my best interview. He was obviously tired and eager to be done. I wasn't feeling well. I had pulled a muscle in my ass. I know, I know, let the mocking begin, but it's a common injury for martial arts who try to kick high when their legs really shouldn't spread so far. I'll give you gory details on the 'more broken than you' thread.

Quote:Nikkatsu sells Alien Vs Ninja to UK and Thailand
10 November, 2009 | By Jason Gray

Japanese studio Nikkatsu has sold Alien Vs Ninja to Revolver Entertainment for the UK and M Pictures for Thailand.

Written and directed by Seiji Chiba, the special effects-laden film is set many centuries ago and follows a band of ninjas doing battle with aliens who crash land in Japan. It stars Masanori Mimoto, Shuji Kashiwabara, Donpei Tsuchihira and Mika Hijii.

The action direction is handled by Yuji Shimomura and Kensuke Sonomura, prolific stuntmen and action choreographers who are now branching out into Asian and US productions.

The sale marks Nikkatsu’s first deal with London and L.A.-based Revolver. M Pictures previously picked up rights for The Machine Girl.

As reported on ScreenDaily, Alien Vs Ninja is the first title for Nikkatsu’s newly-established extreme gore-action film label Sushi Typhoon. Nikkatsu showed buyers a one-minute promo reel for Alien Vs Ninja and is currently negotiating deals with other territories.

Headed by Yoshinori Chiba, Sushi Typhoon will produce titles by cult directors, including Sion Sono, Noboru Iguchi and Takashi Miike, for overseas audiences.

DW buys 'Wife vs. Ninja' pitch
Michael Besman to produce action-laughs mix
By TATIANA SIEGEL

DreamWorks is delving into the world of high-stakes infidelity for an upcoming action comedy.

Company has nabbed Michael Besman's pitch 'Wife vs. Ninja,' which centers on a Long Island housewife who discovers that the beautiful young intern who recently stole her scientist husband is actually a bloodthirsty ninja assassin intent on stealing his work.

Besman, who is best known for producing such critic faves as 'About Schmidt' and 'The Opposite of Sex,' will share story by credit with tyro scribes Michael Zam and Jaffe Cohen, who are penning the high-concept script. Besman will also don his producer hat for 'Wife vs. Ninja.'

'We fell in love with the mix of action and laughs in (the story),' said co-president of production Holly Bario.
