This animated series was the first exclusively made for Amazon. It ran 2 8 ep seasons in 2019 & 2022. It’s rotoscope animation, very reminiscent in style and hallucinatory scenes to A Scanner Darkly. Rose Salazar (who I loved as Alita and in the ST tribble short) play Alma, who suffers a near death car accident that propels her into a world of delusion where she’s talking to her dead father (Bob Odenkirk who Im really starting to like) who was a theoretical physicist that may have solved time travel but then was killed. It doesn’t quite take off until ep 3 after the hallucinations kick in, but that’s where I’m at now and it’s mind-bending fun. EPS are just over 20 mins and I shall watch more.

Totally sucked into this show now. I was just going to finish S1 but the season finale cliffhanger demanded that i watch more and now I’m a few deep into S2. Salazar & Odenkirk are both so good in this. Their acting chops shine through the animation and I forget thst it’s even animated. S1 was all about whether Alma (Salazar) is a time traveller or schizophrenic. That’s resolved by the start of S2 which has moved on to another family mystery. But what works is the underlying humor of it all. The dialog feels real and Salazar’s comic timing is mighty. The mysteries are logical and amusing coupled with the great effects of a ton of stunt works. I must binge it through.

Totally enjoyed that. Some trippy psych stuff and I’m all in for thst.

Despite critical acclaim, the show ended at season 2, which has decent closure but there was definitely more to say with another season. S2 dug deep into generational trauma, guilt and ostricization. Some heavy reveals in character back stories. Not quite as strong as season 1 but still very engaging.

I’d watch more of there was more.

D00M recommendation sustained.
