Blue Beetle (2023)
#1
When you can say one of the better things about a movie is a character played by George Lopez, you know something is off.

This isn't good. Kudos for hispanic representation, but it sure felt like all the characters were caricatures. The plot is well beyond predictable. Boy gets ahold of artifact that gives him great powers. Evil people come to take it away. He defends himself and learns a lesson along the way. There were one or two laugh out loud moments mostly dealing with grandma. And like I said, Lopez does a good job with his character of Rudy. But Susan Sarandon must have lost her notes about subtlety in acting or the screenwriters hated her and just gave her some of the worst dialogue ever. If she had a mustache she would have twirled it.

And since it was so bad, Xolo has been confirmed to be the Blue Beetle going forward in the DCU.

Bummer.

I am obligated to see this someday. I’ve interviewed Xolo for Cobra Kai. We passed on the screener though. I cannot remember why. Prolly scheduling or genral lack of interest.

I liked Sarandon back in her Rocky Horror/Thelma & Louise days but was totally turned off by her politics and cancelled her in my mind.

She was excellent in Bull Durham. I can't remember her being in a film in the last twenty years.

Oh right. She was good in that.

But she’ll always be Janet to me.

Dammit!

She was in The Hunger w/David Bowie. There's a naught lesbian scene with the bell song from Lakme by Delibes playing which they call out in the dialog. It's a beautiful piece of music. I don't recall How the acting was...

Seen on the plane ride home from Houston on my iPhone with subs (I don’t have earbuds).

Greg is pretty much on point with his initial review except for the Lopez part. He’s always kinda annoying to me. Xolo was ok. Sara don’s politics made her more villainous for me. But the whole thing was predictable except the death (the force ghost was predictable afterwards).

BB was the bastard child of Venom & Iron Man but his powers were ill defined.

Not D00M recommended.
