Paprika (2006)

Woah. Trippy. Like full-on anime trippy.

Sometimes you just luck out. I was surfing my queues and somehow I stumbled on this outside of them. I'd heard of it but didn't know much about it and it called to me. 

This is about a experimental device - the DC mini - which allows them to view each others dreams. But it gets loose from the lab and a dream terrorist works out how to get into dreams without it and tear up the border between the awake and dreaming world. Accordingly, this gets crazy surreal quickly. 

This is top-shelf anime from 2006. Many of the scenes are staggeringly beautiful anime, visionary stuff. A wild view of the dream state and here, it borders the yokai world.

Cool music too. It accentuated the weirdness. What a zany circus ride. And then some. 

Loved it. Absolutely D00M recommended.

I did see this a couple years back.  I remember it was very inventive and that I liked it a lot  Alas, the ravages of time have left my memory with a mere vague image of someone running off down a hallway and being shot from behind, and it's all done in some psychedelically cool way...

That was a key scene replayed from multiple perspectives in a rashomon way.

There’s a lot to this film. I may have to rewatch it soon. It was kinda overwhelming with its imagery and concepts…
