[Seen on Hoopla]
This stars Dario Argento is a role so close to himself (a writer working on a book about film) that at times I thought this was a documentary about his trials and tribulations in old age. But no, he is playing a character, brilliantly, as a man overwhelmed by a wife suffering from dementia.
The wife is totally convincing. There is a full-grown son who tries to help out with the situation, but he's got his own problems.
Most of the film is shown in split-screen, half following the man as he tries to function and work in his house, rhe other half focused on his wife, often seen wandering lost through the house. The house is cluttered, and at times the wife tries to tidy up, but succeeds only in stashing things away haphazardly or even tossing the husband's work in progress.
The film is immersive, told in chunks of real-time. It is brilliant, painfully slow to watch. I'd recommend it to anyone suffering from from manic-depression who needs to get out of the manic phase. If manic is 10 and depression is 0, this movie will move your mood gauge from 10 to -100. Unless you're seeking that, I would not recommend.
