Watched the first Ep. It was alright.
At first, I was paying a lot of lip service to the fans as it reestablished itself with much better animation. The new ‘I HAVE THE POWER!’ transformation owes a lot to Sailor Moon.
Then it took a sharp turn that sets up the main arc. Teela’s reaction was spot on. Nice play.
It’s quite different from the new She-ra which is a complete reimagining, right down to the animation style. So far, this is more of a loyal update, for the fans.
I’ll watch more eventually.

4 of the 5 eps down. Saving the last one. Each Ep is only about a half hour long.
This is rather smart in how it updates the original series and where they go with it. It’s all about Teela and Evil-Lyn. The voice cast is solid. Evil-Lyn is Headley and she nails her ‘bollocks’ line. Skeletor is Hamill. Teela is Geller who I’m not fond of, but she’s so buff. All the women are buff. There are a few other notable cast memeber like Henry Rollins and Jason Mewes.
There are some major deaths. I’m curious to see if everyone stays dead.
It’s magic vs tech but Eternia’s tech is so magical it’s really just about spells vs mech. The major arc isn’t that fresh - your basic quest. Where it shines is in revealing the characters as much more actualized. Gotta hand it to Kevin Smith. The script is a good update as well as an homage, right down to the dumb pun quips that pervaded the dialog in the original. This one is for the fans.
I’m not sure if it works that well if you haven’t seen the original. Too many random characters if you don’t know who is who. It does manipulate fan heartstrings - not that I was that into this series as a kid, but I enough to relish the Easter egg. They even capture the dopey pun quips that made up so much of the original. Nice and retro in many ways. Also a new vision for the franchise.

WTH!?! A Feckin cliffhanger? That was no season 1. It was a Feckin set up, a hook into next season.
I guessed where this was going to go but I guessed wrong. My idea was better though. Maybe it’ll still come to pass in s2 a not that I plan to watch it.
I will say that this is a clever update of the original. But that’s just not enough to sustain it for me. I didn’t care that much for the original cartoon. Cringed bugged the crap out of me when I was a kid. What a whiner.
I’ll probably bail on s2. This wasn’t that good in the end.
Lots of sword fights. Not DOOM recommended.

Chances were next to nothing that I would have seen this. The only hope was the Kevin Smith tie-in. After your review, the chance of me seeing it are even lower.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

Yeah, it's really a throwback to simpler times for me. I wasn't that into He-Man but it was a fixture of my childhood. I can't say that I can see Smith's hand in this, except for the fact that it's loyal to the original and honors the fandom well.
