I know. What's the rush. It's only been off the air for about five years. I had no interest in the show when it originally but it always got favorable reviews. When tQ and I were hunting for something to watch we opted on Hannibal.
It's pretty good. It's the Hannibal Lector story before he was caught and imprisoned. The series tells the story of how Will Graham, FBI Profiler, and Hannibal Lecter first began working together.
We saw the first two episodes. They both had a serial killer of the week format. In S1 Ep 1, they track down a man who is kidnapping you women. In S1 Ep2, they look for the man who turned 9 bodies into a mushroom farm. It's all pretty gruesome. It is also pretty stylish.
At the heart of the show lurks Lecter, played by Mads Mikkelsen. I thought no one could replace Anthony Hopkins in the role, but Mikkelsen does an aptly creepy job. He kind of haunts the first episode and only comes on board in the second episode. My big question is how do people who have not seen the Lecter movies react to him? If you've seen the movies, you know what's coming and want to warn the actors about Lecter's character.
Will Graham is good as the total empath who can crawl into the mind of the killer. A lot of time is devoted recreating how Graham sees what the murderer sees. It reminds me a lot fo the current show Prodigal Son which charts a lot of the same territory only in Prodigal Son the Profiler is the son of the serial killer. But in both shows, the profiler has an uncanny knack of seeing the crimes but they still go back to their serial killer associate on clues to help solve the crime. Hannibal is much better, though.
We will continue to watch. Lots of blood and gore and speakable cruelty. No swords fights. Yet.

As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
