Zombie movies have been done to death, and I generally avoid them like the plague. However, I was curious to see India’s take on the genre. Go Goa Gone has a very modern feel to it. It makes frequent use of the F-word, and there is lots of drinking, pot and drug use throughout. Three guys are lured to an island off the coast of Goa on promise of a rave party hosted by the Russian mafia. In the aftermath of the party, they discover that everyone has turned into zombies. The zombies are slow (one song is titled "Slowly Slowly"), but there's lots of them, and the protagonists are trapped on the island with them.
No sword fights, no dance numbers (!!!) other than some random gyrations at the party. Still, this is a clever, fast-moving vehicle that made me laugh out loud several times. I wouldn’t call it great, but if you’re in the mood for some zombies, this is a decent take on them with some fresh new ideas.
Note: The movie is preceded by a public announcement on the dangers of smoking. India tacks this onto the front of most of their movies these days, but this one runs an incredible 5 minutes, with graphic pictures of lungs and also footage of patients in hospitals that have had major operations due to cigarette smoking.
