Is this where we keep the "happy birthday" wishes for our fellow DOOMers? Seems appropriate to me...

I'm not so broken...I was just talking to him on the phone a few hours ago, but now my dad's in the hospital with massive bleeding in the brain (according to my mom). They're going to transfer him to another hospital. On on my way over there now.

Holy crap! I'm sure it is because your dad always had a big brain (did I ever mention how much he intimidated me when I was dating Betty?)

I hope all is actually minor and instantly reparable and causes no damage.

My dad's stroke was a total surprise and complete deal changer. Hope all goes well with your dad. Let me know if I can be of any support.

No good news. They tried to put in a drain to relieve some of the pressure, but by Saturday they knew it didn't help. I'm helping my mom deal with all the details and we'll have a memorial at some point. To compound things, I'm coping with a wicked sore throat (it's 3:45am and I can't sleep).

Didn't the parents get the memo they can't get sick? I hope everything works out for you and your Dad.

On a happier note, I'm off to Kaiser to go swallow a camera. I hope it's not a DSLR.
So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit

DM, does Rock Med have any use for gauze bandages? We have a small supply of unopened ones and we're trying to find some place to donate them.

We actually have more than our share of gauze. In fact, there's a mission to clean out our storage, gather up all the bandages and donate them to another group. Thanks for asking however.

What's happening with your dad?

PPS: Anyone know a bagpiper for hire? I got it in my head last night to surprise my mom by having a piper come down the street playing this particular lament that I really love during the open house. It's about 10 minutes long. Really moving. I think it's called "Lament for the Only Son".

Of course, I don't know what to do with him after that. I think the neighbors will get a bit miffed if we have an all-day piper fest.

Also not sure if it's good form or not since my dad wasn't a Scot, but my mom is, and they raised deerhounds and Skye Terriers forever and frequented a good number of Scottish Games.

I know someone in the Bay Area who might know of someone - I'll ask.

Edited to add: She suggested you try these sites:

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
