Jeopardy
#61
On Saturday morning I drove LCF to Enterprise Mountain View on El Camino.  Half dozen people were standing outside waiting to be serviced.  The cars weren't being returned as soon as expected.  We stood in a "six feet of separation" spot for quite a while, watching fencers stabbing each other in the parking lot of some Fencing business on the other side of El Camino.  Eventually LCF cut me loose, and I went home to take care of other business.

LCF finally came home with a rental (bigger than she wanted) after a couple hour wait -- that despite having a reservation and time for pickup.

LCF will likely start down around 11 am Sunday.

Fencers. They're spreading like a virus.

Happy trails to LCF. We're all pulling for her.

Hey, folks. Thanks for the good wishes.

I'm supposed to show up Tuesday at 7 am "camera ready" (hah) and with two or three more outfits. I need to be able to mic myself, and they'll give us all extra powder but no can touchee, so I'm going to play with makeup tonight or tomorrow. I've been having my "I'm not ready" dreams, which have morphed from exams and plays to martial arts tournaments, but this morning was the first actual "I'm not ready for Jeopardy" dream. Trump was the guest host. I spent more time trying to figure out a way to take him out than getting ready for the show.

I would be happy to discuss betting strategies for final if I'm in second place and it's not a runaway. (I hope I get at least second place; that's the only way I'll break even.) Gary is of the theory (and I agree) that it's all kinda pretend money at that point, and an aggressive bet is the way to go.

What say Doom?

Gathering up the last of my stuff and hitting the road.

Keep him company while I'm gone, okay?

PS Took an hour and a half to get the car. When we got there at the appointed time the lot looked like it was full of day laborers.

I agree that it is play money — aggressive bet!

I'm sure he'll occupy himself with wholesome videos like Hallmark xmas specials and such. No worries.

All in for those Daily Doubles. You got this!

Greg's Jeopardy Theories based entirely on his observations. No science was used in any of these strategies.

First Round: Always bet it all for the Daily Double. Plenty of time to catch up if you get it wrong.

Final Round
These are for the close rounds. If you are way ahead, you know what to do.

If you are in first place, you have to assume second place is going to get it right. You have to bet twice as much as second plus 1$.

If you are in second place and it's close, you have to hope first is going to get it wrong. If first place knows the answer, they win. But if first place doesn't know the answer and second place doesn't know the answer, you have to be strategically. Second place has to bet just enough to get beyond first places current score. If first has $2000 and second has $1800, second should just bet $201. The reason for this is first place has to assume second place knows the answer and will bet all of their money. If first doesn't bet enough to cover second and they are both right, first will lose. So first bets enough to cover second. Second then should never bet it all unless, first is very far ahead.

In sum, if you are in second, bet as little as you can and hope first doesn't know the answer.

Third place. If you are way behind, might as well bet $0 and try in come second. If it is close, only bet enough to cover second place or even first place if you are all very close.

Good luck, LCF. The Queen and I can't wait to see you on our Television set.

"I'll take Culver City for 1000..."

"Where will lcf be staying exactly?"

Are you kidding me? You're getting on muthafeckin Jeopardy! That's the smartest game show in English. Even if you don't make it, that's an awesome achievement, especially now.

It's like when we went to China to compete. Even though we didn't get to the top of the podium, we did good. I still treasure those memories.

It's a major win. But winning winning, will be even better.

Being asked to compete on Jeopardy is a total win!

Focus on the game — winning takes care of itself.

LCF got tested for covid yesterday.  They were supposed to give her the results in about two hours.  She never heard back.

Hopefully that was just an innocent glitch, because if she has to be retested today, she might not be cleared in time to participate.

Today they tape 5 shows.  Tomorrow they tape 5 more.  LCF has no idea where she'll enter the mix.  Whoever is left standing at the end of tomorrow will have to come back later when they have another taping session.

She's staying at the LAX Culver City Hilton.  I think that's what it's called.  It's close to the airport.

Just so you know.

That's always been the deal about taping. They tape five shows a day, twice a week. It used to be Tuesday and Thursday. Parking was a nightmare in the Overland lot on those days as they brought in the audience through the Overland Parking Lot for taping.

Dammit! Where's is my jeopardy update?

Okay, you're not supposed to tell. I get it. But is LCF coming home today or later in the week?

Oh, fuck.  Forgot she was down there doing that.  Yeah, I believe she'll be coming home very late tonight.  Or possibly tomorrow.

I did get an update, by the way.  And even though I'm not supposed to say anything--  Hmmm, there's a Jeopardy van parked out front and someone with wire cutters is headed for the internet lines coming into the house.  So I'll be quick.  Games were played, and LCF got into the mix.  She--
