Been dealing with wacked Shaolin registration websites and figuring out WeChat. My Shaolin master told me to get WeChat years ago. Finally got it and it’s confusing - I immediately received a random text in Chinese from someone claiming to be coming to the US and wondering what sort of gift to bring me. I made the mistake of allowing my phone number to be published for TCEC (bad proofreading on my part) and got inundated with Chinese spam. Chinese spammers are relentless. WeChat is weird - trying to figure out how to connect with certain people but it’s not easy because search results are in Chinese and not always copyable text (if I can copy, I can run it through a translator easily). WeChat is really just for prep. I suspect my iPhone won’t function in PRC - it’ll just be a camera. One of my KF brothers a just came back from PRC and his iPhone bricked despite having swapped his SIM card and upgraded to international roaming.
This trip is fast and my travel in and out is brutal (24+ hours in transit both ways). Once a catch up to the US team, things should go smoothly. But getting there and getting home will be all on me.
I took 8 trips to Shaolin between 95 & 04. But I was 20-30 years younger. Shaolin nearly killed me a few times. I didn’t think I’d go back honestly. If it’s my dime, there are other places on my bucket list. But this offer was too tempting - just get there and they’ll take care of me. I can write off the flights. We shall see…
I leave in a week.
