Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

This was quite good. I’m not a huge TMNT fan although I’ve followed along politely over the years. I’ve seen all the movies, bits of some of the tv series, and read a few of the comics. This stands out as my favorite so far.

The animation is novel. There are moments when the cgi characters were so 3d that I thought it was stop motion animation. It’s rich and colorful visually with these scribbley line effects that constantly remind you that it’s animation while adding a graffiti like feel. Loved the style of it - couldn’t take my eyes off that.

The writing is tight and fast, dropping rapid fire pop culture references and some genuinely funny dialog. It’s quick witty repartee that packs a lot of fast zingers in.

It’s Jackie’s best voice acting work so far, and he’s done quite a few - I’ve documented them here. He gives Splinter a unique take that’s just so Jackie. The other voice actors nail it too, especially Maya Rudolph and Ice Cube.

The action and pacing make for a fun ride and the kaiju ending was astonishingly lovecraftian. Did not expect that.

Yes, it’s the tmnt creation tale again, and it starts a whole new unique timeline, plus the end credits scene sets up a sequel (which I shall watch too if it happens).

Totally D00M recommended.
