Slight spoiler: Season 2 ended with a somewhat cartoony note. Bring based on a graphic novel/comic, I give it a pass, but it was a shift in tone from the rest of the episodes.
Now some backstory: Season 1/2 were a DC/Epix network venture. I understand they had to shut down production on Season 3 due to Covid. Season 3 is an HBO/Max production.
I don't know what the impact of all that is, but I can say that Season 3 opens with a recap of the story up to now, narrated by Alfie. It's a bit chummy and comic-y, too...I'm not sure that I like it.
Season 3 jumps 5 years ahead into a groovy summer of love post-civil war world. Daveboy still has great lines, and the boys still have a security business, but we'll have to see if this season finds a path forward...
