Mickey Hart, Zakir Hussain & Planet Drum w/Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros, Frost 5/1/22
#2
That was a superspreader for sure. 8K deadheads passing joints and nary a mask in sight. Stacy and I were among the maybe 2 dozen peeps who stayed masked.

Lord I hope I don’t catch Covid from this.

Planet drum was awesome. 8 drummers and 2 singer dancers. Mickey brought the beam and that’s always a joy to hear. Zakir had the most distinct line - so fast and precise. We could always pick out his sound. Hidalgo could’ve stood down a bit. His solo spent too much time going nowhere. It was mostly about Zakir and the beam bombs. One was so low it could only be felt and the whole crowd gasped when it dropped. Great stuff.

Bobby -  not so much. He’s slow and overdone, like a lounge act. Some of the arrangements were fresh, but sluggish overall. I would enjoy it more if it was speed up a notch or eleven. We left before Bobby did 10 songs. He opened with Jack Straw which has the dead lyric Stacy hates most ‘we can share the some . we can share the wine.’ I used to have a Jack Straw shirt that spoofed the JD label and had that on the back. Stacy had me get rid of it.

It was good to be back amongst my tribe and nice to see a few old friends. Who says you don’t get flashbacks. But I was too anxious about Covid and my mom. I couldn’t let go, even for a few hours.
