The Eagles have my respect for that album alone. Regardless of what they did later and how much airplay they received with lesser material, Desperado stands as arguably the most cohesive country-rock album of all time. They did some good work with Joe Walsh who joined later, but I'll take Desperado over any & all of their later work.
And Joe Walsh was always better as a solo. His "Smoker You Drink..." album remains a classic.
I can appreciate any and all good Eagle haters, as the bulk of their later work was, in my mind, over valued and over played. But I could listen to Desperado most days of the week.
