Wasn't "The Searchers" filmed around there, too? That was a gorgeous movie to watch.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.
