Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
#1
Saw a commercial for the movie, so I picked up the book in the library. It started off strong, but the story is not original: gifted ("peculiar") individuals pursued by some evil. The author collects vintage photographs, and they inspired the story, so they are in the book. I hated that; it felt like it forced you to see the characters a certain way. I don't think anything was gained by it except to make the book thicker. Perhaps worst, it ended abruptly, since there are going to be sequels. If I had known that, I probably wouldn't have read it.

Maybe the movie is better. I would skip this if I were you.
