I seem to be on a Billy Joel kick recently. I heard most of the Howard Stern interview. I'm listening to his channel on SiriusXM and now I'm watching this movie based around his tour to Russia back in 1987. It coincides with the release of his new album, but the story tells how Mr. Joel won the cold war by playing Rock and Roll in the USSR. There is some merit to his statements. he was the first big touring act to go through the USSR. And it did show the young people of the USSR a different way of life. And it showed Billy that people are people no matter where you go.
The musical performances are let down by the fact Billy blew out his throat on one of the first stops. But it was nice to hear the juke box tunes again. I've seen him a couple of times in concert and he always put on a great show.
They have a lot of interviews with the current band members including Liberty DeVito who I thought was out of the band after he complained that he wasn't getting paid enough or he was owed a fairer share of the royalties. Although they did show Christie Brinkley and she's been out of the band for quite some time.
A serviceable film about the tour and everything is put in a good light.
