My sister was a cheerleader and model-to-be. She made me distrust attractive people as shallow and self-centered. So far that distrust has not been invalidated.

Let me clarify; our environmental variables guide our perception and behavior. If you think your appearance enhances your peer evaluation, you enhance that appearance. The cost of enhancing that appearance may mean sacrificing environmental variables that do not contribute to that peer appreciation. This means some (not all) modelling types will spend cognitive cycles on pairing external instant gratification (shoes + outfit) versus internal prolonged gratification (research + anecdotal evidence + collation + results) that could be used to validate belief systems.
