Dad is resting at a nursing home where he is to receive some P.T. He's alert and engaged, but weak from the ordeal. He still has the foley catheter, and that, plus his mobility, will determine if he can be released in a week. The insurance pays for a week. Any more comes out of our pockets and facilities of this type run about $250 a day. My mom is skeptical he will be able to return home in a week. We discussed building some ramps for the two-step stairs that form the landing at our front door. It's a quirky bit of the architecture of our house - the landing is elevated by two steps for no good reason.
On a side note, I knew the home because for a short stint, I worked as a Med Lab driver, a job I got through LB when I was in college. Mountain View and Palo Alto were on my route, so I know the insides of a lot of those homes. The smell brought me right back, and that was over a quarter century ago now.
