Home alone again. Actually, I should be off with the Queen meeting with cousins and Aunts and Uncle, but no. I'm spending here with Ewan McGregor. Again.
It's a fine movie that was made for 3D. Of course, I saw it home on the 2D screen. Which means when the made for 3D scenes come on, you go wow that was a 3D scene. Lots of beans thrown at the screen and vines coming at you and swords being poked at the screen.
Ewan seemed to be having the most fun in this film, channeling his inner Errol Flynn circa Robin Hood. It's the tale you know with bits to flesh it out. You get Jack's back story. Of course since it is a fairy tale, there will be a princess. The guy who plays Jack comes off as a less charismatic Keeanu Reeves. He has the unenviable task of doing the hero stuff without the benefit of Ewan's charm.
The Giants were fine, big and horrible. They had their own complications as well. In the end they were still just the bad guys looking for their pound of English flesh. Stanley Tucci gets to play the bad guy. If you don't know that after the first millisecond of the film, you need to bone up on your remedial bad guy performances. At least they gave him a lot of hair. But it was still twirl the Snidely Whiplash mustache for most of his performance.
An enjoyable if slight film. Fast forward to the battle sequence at the end.
