What started as a trilogy is now a series of four. I picked these up on the Yeti recommendation. The first book 'Equations of Life' left me a little cold. The plot was scattered. The main character, Petrovitch, was too unlikeable for me to care much about his story. Especially slipshod was his relationship with Maddie, the warrior-nun. It was never really developed to my satisfaction. But the setting of a post-armageddon London was interesting enough for me to want to continue the series. The second and third books stories were much more interesting. I like how Petrovitch is slowly getting whittled away through his mis-adventures.
The fourth book in the series 'The Curve of the Earth' takes place ten years after the end of the original trilogy. The story is much tighter. Petrovitch has to find out what has happened to his daughter in fanatical religious right America. It moves along quite well. A lot more whittling. A lot more mystery. I am getting a little tired of Petrovitch's omniscience in problem solving, but I am getting to like the character more.
