For years, my parents and I would watch the news about the Ugly Dog contest in Petaluma, CA. In August of 1977, after seeing the footage of the winners, we knew that Bently needed to be entered. Little did I realize that it was also an excuse for my parents to get together with their friends and get hammered. They made t-shirts and posters and came up with a chant. I was in charge of the dog.

Sadly, we did not win. The chinese crested hairless that did win was an abomination. But the organizers did give us a consolation prize of 50lbs of dogfood. Or they gave it to us to shut us up. I think the drunken chanting got annoying after awhile.
