The Heroes by Joe Abercrombie
#1
Ah, cynicism in fantasy The Heroes tells the story of the battle at the Heroes, a stonehenge like sit atop a hill, over the course of three days. It's another stand alone novel set in the world of the "First Rule Trilogy". It could almost a be a continuation of that trilogy since most of the characters appeared in those books and takes place shortly after the end of those books.
It's bloody and dark. It's themes are that idiots are in charge, war is hell, and nothing every good comes from battle. Everyone's expectations about what they think they are doing is reversed. It's all told with humor and biting sarcasm.
The one thing I came away with is the fact I hate magic user Bayaz. He's the anti-Gandalf. I cringe whenever he appeared on the scene because I knew things were going to get bad.

It's a really good novel. You don't have to have read the others to read this novel. But you might as well since they are equally as good. But this will be the last book for awhile from Mr. Abercrombie. He's currently plotting out the next trilogy and feels we won't see anything from him until late 2012. Aaaargh.
So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit
